Rooted in Purpose

Virtuous Women Credit and Loan Cooperative Society (VWCLCS) began in 2014 with just 20 faith-filled women and a big dream: to build a community where women could grow spiritually, economically, and socially—together.

Today, that dream continues to blossom. With over 110 members and counting, VWCLCS is a thriving, intergenerational sisterhood guided by a team of devoted women and an esteemed advisory board drawn from within and beyond the cooperative. At the heart of our daily work is a committed administrative team, driven by purpose and a shared vision.

Since inception, the cooperative has sustained a 100% loan recovery rate—a rare and remarkable achievement that speaks to the accountability, trust, and mutual support among our members.

Salome Agbaji, Founder VWCLCS

Through the unwavering generosity of partners and supporters—especially Partners Worldwide—VWCLCS has been able to expand its reach and impact. With their help, we acquired a tractor in 2022 that is now leased to local farmers, enabling access to vital agricultural tools at fair rates. We continue to support the growth of our members' businesses through development services such as intensive business trainings, local and international mentorship, advocacy, access to capital, and networking.

But our mission goes beyond economic empowerment. At VWCLCS, we believe in holistic empowerment—that a woman’s spiritual and social wellbeing matters just as much as her financial progress. Monthly prayer cell meetings, welfare packages, and community-driven initiatives are woven into our fabric. Over the past seven years, we’ve consistently supported 15 widows with food, funds, and essential supplies. Our members have also contributed to providing portable water in four communities across Jos Township.

We’re proud to say that VWCLCS is more than a cooperative—it’s a ministry of light in the business world. Our values of integrity, service excellence, ethical practices, and Christlike conduct guide every decision we make.

Through our training programs, we’ve equipped over 400 individuals using the Partners Worldwide Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Curriculum. This includes 35 pastors, 102 youths, and 363 women trained using the MicroEnterprise Curriculum, which we offer in both English and Hausa. These trainings continue to strengthen business foundations, encourage ethical practices, and empower participants to build sustainable ventures rooted in purpose.

By God’s grace and the continued support of our partners, we are still growing, still serving, and still trusting Him for even greater things ahead.

What We Do, and How We Do It

At Virtuous Women Credit and Loan Cooperative Society, we empower women through access to microfinance, business training, mentorship, and community support.
We do this by building a faith-driven network rooted in trust, growth, and service—where women support one another to thrive spiritually, economically, and socially.

Microfinance

Our microfinance services are designed to provide women with access to capital for their growth and empowerment. Through small, low-interest loans, members can expand their businesses, support their families, or pursue personal development goals. These loans are primarily for members, though non-members may also access funding with the backing of a guarantor from within the cooperative. Our capital is sourced through pooled contributions from our members for our members, strategic partnerships, and government grants—ensuring that the cooperative remains a true vehicle of collective upliftment. By promoting a culture of saving, financial discipline, and mutual trust, we help our community build stability, resilience, and long-term success.

Business Training

We offer practical business training designed to equip both aspiring and established entrepreneurs—including women and youth—with the skills they need to succeed. From business planning and marketing to financial literacy and digital tools, our trainings are tailored to meet the unique needs of Nigerian women in business, while also empowering the next generation of young entrepreneurs to build sustainable livelihoods and drive community growth.

Cooperative Management

As a cooperative, we are owned and led by our members. We teach and practice democratic decision-making, transparent financial practices, and collective growth. Through this model, women learn to lead, manage resources effectively, and benefit from shared support and accountability.

Skills Acquisition

Our skills acquisition programs empower women with hands-on vocational training—from agriculture to tailoring, crafts, and tech-based skills. These programs provide alternative sources of income, open up new career paths, and promote self-reliance within the community.

Our Partners

We’re grateful for the organizations and individuals who walk beside us in purpose. Their support helps us reach more women, deepen our impact, and build lasting change together.

"This organization has been a pillar of support for my business, providing loans during difficult times. In July 2024, I faced a significant challenge when I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. The financial burden of surgery and chemotherapy was overwhelming.

That's when Virtuous Women Credit and Loan Cooperative society stepped in, offering a loan with a low interest rate of just 1% for members. I received the loan within two days, which was a miracle.

But Virtuous Women did more than just provide financial support. They also uplifted me through prayers and Financial support during my darkest moments.

I'm grateful to God for giving me a second chance to revive my business . Thank you, Virtuous Women Credit and loan cooperative society, for being a source of hope and strength in my life."

Receiving support from Virtuous Women was a turning point for me. The loan gave me the breathing space I needed to grow my business and manage my responsibilities without constant pressure.

But beyond the financial help, what stood out was the encouragement and belief they showed in my potential. It gave me the confidence to take bold steps I would have hesitated to take before.

Today, my business is more stable, my income has improved, and I’m able to support my family and even extend help to others in small but impactful ways. The experience has not only strengthened my business but has also given me a renewed sense of purpose and possibility. I remain truly grateful to Virtuous Women for being part of my journey.
